Skills Led and Topic Based
Time4Teachers offers a Foundation Subject curriculum which is skills led and topic based. Progression of skills has been mapped throughout each Key Stage and year group. However, to support the teaching of mixed aged classes, an alternative progression map is available for those schools where units are taught through a rolling cycle. Topics have been chosen to provide variety as well as to comply with National Curriculum requirements and there is a balance between History and Geography led topics. Skills have been progressively mapped though each topic to ensure full curriculum coverage..
Progress in History and Geography
Each unit topic includes differentiated planning and teaching resources, pupil activity resources , a fully differentiated success criteria to support teachers in making assessment and an easy to use tracking system to track both pupil and cohort progress within each unit. This can then be brought together at the end of the year to make an overall judgement on a pupils’ progress within both History and Geography.
Foundation subject teaching, planning and assessment
Units can be purchased individually to slot into your school’s curriculum or units can be purchased as a year group/Key Stage /complete school set for the whole year. Each unit includes cross curricular teaching opportunities (please see individual contents pages for further details). Where cross curricular opportunities arise, skills included are taken from the Time4Teachers Reading, Writing or Science long term plans for that point in the year. For example, the Foundation units which appear on the Time4Teachers long term plan in the Autumn Term, include Reading, Writing or Science skills which appear on Time4Teachers Reading, Writing or Science long term plans in the Autumn Term. Through this, all parts of the Time4Teachers curriculum complement each other.
Skills within the cross curricular sections are planned for both year groups within that Key Stage. For example, if a topic is being taught from an Upper Key Stage 2 unit, cross curricular Reading, Writing or Science lessons will include differentiated skills and teaching for both Year 5 and Year 6 pupils.
